NAPWHA (National Association of People with HIV Australia) is the peak non-government organisation representing individuals living with HIV in Australia.
Working across a range of HIV healthcare, they provide advocacy, policy, education and outreach to members of the community and focus on improving long-term quality of life for people with HIV. The team works to promote their vision of providing the highest standard of care and research into its social and clinical effects.

The Role
Reporting to the Executive Director, this new role provides the opportunity to work on projects related to HIV health policy development, advocacy, and strategy. You will be responsible to develop relationships across member organisations, external partners and communities. Specifically you will:
- Work with the leadership team and board to set the organisations policy and advocacy direction
- Research, analyse and develop related health policy
- Hold primary responsibility for grant writing and submissions to government enquiries
- Manage the political and policy environment in which NAPWHA operates in and coordinate responses
- Develop and communicate narrative to confidently mobilise and engage communities
- Ensure ongoing alignment with NAPWHA’s vision, purpose and strategy
Skills Required
The successful candidate will have an awareness of HIV and worked within either a NFP, state or commonwealth government department or public health focused organisation, and hold:
- Willingness to work sensitively with diverse populations and build collaborative partnerships
- Outstanding policy, processing and planning skills
- An understanding of peer-based models of community development
- A team player with proven project management skills
- Successful grant writing skills and familiar with the Australian public health system
- Demonstrated experience in health policy, advocacy or education related roles
