The Organisation

The Sunrise Project is a global network of independent organisations that has adopted a unique model of combined strategic grant-making and campaigning, with a common mission to scale social movements to drive the energy transition beyond fossil fuels. Sunrise Inc. is a proud member of The Sunrise Project network.  Committed to supporting its team members as it tackles the urgent challenge of climate change, The Sunrise Project believes that a diversity of experiences and perspective strengthens its strategies, teams, and movements.

Fossil gas accounts for around 23% of all fossil fuel emissions globally. The IEA’s Net Zero by 2050 Scenario calls for no new gas fields and a full phase-out of gas in power by 2040, yet governments and industry continue to expand gas-based energy, particularly in Asia.  The new Senior Strategist Gas Finance position exists to collaborate across the global Sunrise team and movement allies to develop and implement strategies to shift finance out of LNG and fossil fuel expansion in Asia. This role will identify powerful interventions and support high-impact campaigns that will scale the broader climate justice movement.

  • Generous package in line with experience and with international expectations
  • Liberal annual, parental, birthday, solidarity, and cultural leave
  • Commitment to professional development planning
  • Coaching, performance reviews & management feedback
  • Intermittent travel with advance notice may be required
Indicative salary ranges: SGD 105,754 - 135,825 (Singapore); KRW 80,405,918 - 102,493,118 (South Korea) JPY 8,657,169 - 11,105,435 (Japan).

The Role

As Gas Finance Senior Strategist, you will work at the intersection of climate action, finance, and strategy—developing approaches to shift capital away from LNG expansion and gas lock-in in Asia. You’ll identify key leverage points across public and private finance, collaborate with partners, and hold financial institutions accountable for their part in the energy transition.

At this critical stage of the global energy transition, you’ll work with the global Sunrise team and partners to influence capital flows in Asia and support the shift toward renewable energy. Specifically, you will:
  • Research, analyse, and develop campaign strategies to support key goals.
  • Build shared understanding of the most impactful financial interventions.
  • Develop trusting relationships with the climate movement and allies to scale campaigns.
  • Convene and support network collaboration and capacity building.
  • Represent Sunrise at public fora and industry events.
  • Develop, monitor, and evaluate grants to partner organizations.

Skills Required

You are a highly skilled, driven, and experienced campaigner and strategist with a track record of achieving real-world outcomes and a commitment to social justice. You understand corporate power; who holds it, and how it operates in the finance sector. You have a strong understanding of what moves financial stakeholders and policy and how to leverage those insights into compelling strategies for action.

While you may not have direct experience working on gas or energy, you will be a skilled researcher who can quickly engage with technical information, and you are financially literate. You are an excellent presenter, facilitator, and collaborator and you are deeply committed to driving systemic climate action. You must also have the following:
  • A strong understanding of the drivers of financial markets, financial institutions, and finance policy .
  • Experience and familiarity with the region’s socio-economic systems and political cultures.
