As Australia’s national peak body for the community-controlled HIV response and LGBTIQA+ health, Health Equity Matters delivers activities and programming to support member organisations working for people with HIV, sex workers, people who use drugs, LGBTIQA+ communities and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Through advocacy, policy and health promotion the organisation leads Australia’s effort to end HIV transmission and promote the health of its communities.
Health Equity Matters’ close connections with its communities enables the organisation to provide rapid intelligence to decision-makers on changes in Australia’s HIV epidemic and LGBTIQA+ health. Through this work Health Equity Matters is a unified voice working across a diverse membership mobilising and responding quickly to challenges, and acting as a trusted communication channel to government, research, and clinical partners.

The Role
In this role you will lead the development and implementation of an online learning program that builds the capacity of Australia’s community-controlled HIV workforce, and other community health workforces to deliver services to people with HIV and those at-risk of HIV. The goal of the program is to ensure workforces are routinely updated on scientific, medical and socio-cultural developments in HIV through online learning modules and other activities.
The program develops and implements skills-based learning packages to develop the capacity of community workforces and to inform HIV program planning and delivery among community-controlled service delivery organisations. You will be responsible for leading a dedicated and highly trained team to achieve the program’s objectives with the following responsibilities:
Skills Required
You have extensive experience overseeing and strategically delivering online and in-person learning programs in a health related, education or like-minded sector. Crucially you have demonstrated capacity in conceptualising, developing and implementing a workplan of online learning activities to build the capacity of an organisation or workforce. You have also engaged with socially and culturally diverse stakeholders to determine their learning requirements and to promote the program.

The Role

You will be responsible for leading a dedicated and highly trained team to achieve the program’s objectives with the following responsibilities:
- Conceptualise and implement an annual program of activities
- Oversee the implementation of a monitoring and evaluation framework
- Lead the delivery of a high-quality program, activities and reporting to funders
- Convene a national forum of member organisations
- Support the leadership team to maintain relations with member organisations
- Support your supervisor to provide routine reporting to the board
- Understand, implement and participate in processes, policies and procedures
Skills Required
You have extensive experience overseeing and strategically delivering online and in-person learning programs in a health related, education or like-minded sector. Crucially you have demonstrated capacity in conceptualising, developing and implementing a workplan of online learning activities to build the capacity of an organisation or workforce. You have also engaged with socially and culturally diverse stakeholders to determine their learning requirements and to promote the program.
You also have the following experience:
- A track record of autonomously planning, implementing and completing technical projects
- Ability to work collaboratively to resolve complex issues
- Negotiation skills to achieve results while maintaining important relationships
- Experience and success in managing staff
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent judgement to manage and advise management on sensitive issues
- Familiarity with learning management systems and associated platforms, particularly Absorb and Articulate is desirable
