The Organisation
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is mandated to lead and coordinate international action to protect and assist refugees and other persons of concern. The organisation is an accredited NPO established in 2000 in Japan, to provide information regarding the world’s refugee issues and motivating the public to be concerned with the plight of refugees, and to support the activities of UNHCR.

The Role
Japan for UNHCR aims to increase the amount of charitable giving donated to UNHCR from the Japanese private sector in order to protect the lives of refugees.  A talented individual is now required to complement the Tokyo-based Fundraising Group.
Based within the Private Partnerships and Philanthropy team, you will be working to expand the highest levels of charitable donations made to UNHCR from the private sector in Japan, especially from high net worth individuals. You will be responsible for the planning and implementation of the donor cultivation cycle for individual major donors.

Skills Required

You will be a Japanese national with strong business English skills, additionally you will have:
  • Experience delivering on commercial targets and generating revenue for a commercial or not for profit organisation. Ideally you also have leadership experience.
  • The ability to aggressively research and find prospective individual donors and network effectively with high-level contacts.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, and the ability to understand donor needs gained in a relationship management role.
  • Strategic planning abilities supported by solid analytical abilities gained in a similar commercial role.
