The Organisation

The Association of Children's Welfare Agencies (ACWA) is the NSW peak body representing the voice of non-government community organisations that deliver services to vulnerable children, young people and their families.

For over 60 years ACWA has worked with members, partners, government and non-government stakeholders, and other peak bodies to bring about positive systemic reform to achieve better outcomes for children and young people, including those living in out-of-home care.

ACWA also has a learning and development arm, the Centre for Community Welfare Training (CCWT), which  delivers cotemporary and contextual training focused on strengthening the skills and capacity of the child and family sector workforce to deliver quality services to children, young people and families in need.


The Role

You will lead and drive the vision and strategic direction of ACWA to ensure impact and influence and position ACWA as an expert leader in the planning and provision of services that improve outcomes for children, young people and families.
  
You’ll ensure the delivery of contractual and funding responsibilities and facilitate the representation of members, including continued engagement through a commitment to collaboration and being the voice and advocate for outcomes for member organisations.
  
Providing overall organisational management and governance, you’ll oversee business development, risk management, financial sustainability and people management. This includes leading the CCWT to influence the sector through knowledge development and the delivery of relevant training for people working in the sector.
  
Reporting to the Board, your focus areas will be:
  • Advocacy and stakeholder relationships, including communicating back to members
  • Planning, policy and program development
  • Performance, sustainability and knowledge management of the CCWT
  • Organisational leadership, management and governance
  • Enabling and resourcing members

Skills Required

You have executive leadership experience with a proven track record in organisational development, ideally from within a community services or membership driven organisation such as another peak body or industry association.
  
Having worked at a senior level, advocating on behalf of and building relationships with stakeholders including members, government, regulators and the media, you bring high level capacity and capability to influence, engage and achieve outcomes.

You bring excellent understanding of the government policy context and issues facing community based organisations in their delivery of services to children, young people and families, particularly in the area of out-of-home care, together with:
  • Highly developed leadership and staff management skills
  • Demonstrated success in financial and risk management and reporting
  • Success in generating new revenue streams and ensuring financial sustainability
