The Organisation

Ember is an international independent energy and climate think tank, using data to drive down carbon emissions from electricity generation and to phase-out coal. Ember gathers, curates and analyses data on the global power system and uses the findings to shift the conversation towards high impact energy and climate policies and to empower other advocates to do the same.

Ember is a founding member of Subak, the world’s first non-profit accelerator that scales climate impact through data, policy, and behaviour change. The successful candidate will be joining at a period of rapid growth and be part of an innovative team that’s having a global impact in tackling climate change.

Ember’s work is aligned with the objectives of the Paris Agreement limiting global warming to well below 2C, preferably to 1.5C and the goal to reach global peaking of emissions as soon as possible achieving a climate neutral world by mid-century.

The Role
  
The world needs to rapidly phase down coal power, and since Asia is home to 80% of the world’s coal power, this role is a unique opportunity to influence one of the most important policy areas of this decade. You will lead key research areas including India’s coal phasedown, widening China’s focus on electricity transition, and increase the solar uptake across ASEAN countries.
  
Responsibilities will include;
  • Leadership, development, and expansion of Asia electricity analyst team
  • Coordination of research and advocacy, maximising the team’s impact
  • Development of the Asia strategy ensuring alignment and collaboration across the policy, data, communication, and operation teams
  • Further develop and implement the theory of change across multiple teams ensuring a clear vision and aligned activities across China, India and Southeast Asia
  • Providing inputs into the international overarching strategy


Skills Required
  
You are an experienced programme leader and strategist with a career ideally developed in a like-minded think tank, NGO, foundation, or other relevant organisation. You have considerable experience in initiating political change, influencing the clean energy narrative in Asia and using research and data to impact policy across multiple countries.
  
Your skills include;
  • Building, developing, and managing related Asia regional teams
  • Demonstrated success developing and leading regional programme strategy
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, experienced in outreach
  • Deep socio-political understanding of the South and Southeast Asia regions
  • Effective networking with your established network in energy and climate
Ideally you also offer;
  • Thought leadership in Asia’s electricity transition and ideally energy expertise
  • Extensive experience of media engagement and outreach across diverse platforms
  • Data and data visualisation experience, to complement strong Data and Dataviz teams
