The Organisation

Tara Climate is a new philanthropic initiative in Asia. Tara Climate’s vision is a just and thriving Asia powered by renewable energy. Tara Climate’s mission is to support a diverse group of partners to accelerate Asia’s energy transformation. Tara Climate funds think tanks, civil society, research organizations, and other non-state actors. Tara Climate is currently hosted at the European Climate Foundation, but with a mandate to localise into an independent re-granting foundation in the future, with the strong backing of the ECF and other philanthropic foundations.

The Role

Remotely based in Tokyo, or elsewhere in Asia, your role reports to the Operations Manager and oversees and ensures effective and efficient grant-making activities and their consistency of approach and compliance with internal processes. You will be the liaison between the programmatic work and the ECF finance department, as well as Tara Climate grantees & consultants. You will also:
  • Review and monitor grantee proposals and reporting and execute payments
  • Ensure financial and operational compliance and support due diligence activities
  • Maintain relationships with external service providers for the Japan branch office
  • Manage admin, and logistics, and operations for the Japan branch office.

Skills Required

You have 3-5 years of experience in an administrative, grants, fundraising/sales support, or finance role, ideally from a non-profit or related organisation. You have a genuine interest in climate and the environment and you would enjoy working in a dynamic start-up environment. Additionally, you have:
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow-through on projects
  • Strong team collaboration skills and the ability to work independently 
  • Experience with IT systems, grants, and finance management systems (a plus)
  • Native level Japanese and very good English language skills (essential)
  • Working and residency rights for Japan or the Asian country you reside in (mandatory) 
  • One-year contract initially, strong possibility of renewal
