Tara is a new philanthropic re-granting initiative in Asia that supports a diverse group of partners to accelerate the transition to sustainable, clean energy. Tara is currently hosted at the European Climate Foundation, but with a mandate to localise in the future. Tara’s vision is a just and thriving Asia powered by renewable energy. The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was established in 2008 to help Europe foster the development of a low-carbon society and play an even stronger international leadership role to mitigate climate change.

The Role
  
The Senior Strategist position partners with The Sunrise Project, an Australian-based non-profit organisation, to shift Asian financial markets out of fossil fuels and into clean energy. Working together with Tara Country Leads, and other external partners, the Senior Strategist develops and leads Tara’s finance strategy and programme. Tara’s finance strategy includes supporting a full range of levers to drive systemic change in the finance sector to accelerate the energy transition. This includes reputational risk campaigns focused on shifting key financial institutions, work with Central Banks, financial institutions, governments, and regulators around green and transition finance and accelerating investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
You will:
  • Incubate new strategies and help to implement them at the country and regional level
  • Develop strong networks with NGOs, think tanks, regulators and financial institutions
  • Lead coordination among partners in the finance field to meet Tara’s objectives
  • Manage a multi-million dollar programme budget and partner grants; advise grantees

Skills Required

You are an experienced advocate and programme strategist who understands how to create transformative change, and who has a demonstrated commitment to addressing the climate crisis. You have an innate grasp of campaign strategy, systems thinking and the ability to articulate strategies in a clear and compelling way. Specific finance sector knowledge and experience is a plus, but not essential.
Additionally, you have:
  • 7+ year’s relevant experience in regional/international programmes
  • Strong political savvy, intrinsic motivation and excellent organisational skills
  • A good grasp of energy policy and energy system transformation is desirable
  • An understanding of capital markets/the finance sector and ESG principles (a plus)
  • Strong English language abilities and fluency in a relevant Asian language desirable
  • Full working rights for the Asian country you reside in is mandatory for this position
