The Organisation

Corporate Action Japan (CAJ) コーポレート・アクション・ジャパン is an investor-facing shareholder advocacy organisation, leveraging the power of shareholders to drive climate action in the private sector and capture the opportunities of the net-zero transition.

CAJ aims to increase ambition and momentum across key investment, regulatory, and legislative agendas that can redirect financial flows towards a net-zero economy. CAJ’s vision is a prosperous decarbonized society led by Japan, enabling social and technological shifts for a net-zero economy, ensuring a safe and just future.

CAJ will grow rapidly over the next 2-3 years, bringing together experts with backgrounds in finance, investment, climate change, law, policy, natural sciences, and communications to achieve this vision. CAJ is supported by a coalition of Japanese civil society organisations and international philanthropic foundations.

The Role
  
With an analytical mindset and skills, the Corporate Engagement Lead conducts shareholder engagement with target companies, collaborating with global institutional investors. Dialogue is conducted based on the analysis of the corporate disclosure, proven data, and scientific evidence which this role performs.
  
Other aspects of the role include;
  • Setting an engagement strategy for the target sectors and companies
  • Establishing a group of global institutional investors for co-engagement
  • Performing analysis to enable engagement and corporate dialogue
  • Preparing briefings for institutional investors in the case of proxy voting

Skills Required
  
The ideal candidate is passionate about addressing climate change and has at least seven years professional knowledge of Japanese financial and capital markets as an analyst in securities or with corporate/financial statements, with experience in strategic planning, sustainability advocacy or within the corporate function. Your key competencies include;
  • Communication skills and an understanding of business and finance
  • A knowledge of policy development
  • Networking and relationship building skills
  • Agile working and ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Ability to navigate diverse stakeholder groups and build consensus
