- High profile national organisation within an international network
- Values-driven candidates from outside the environmental movement also encouraged to apply
Greenpeace is a peaceful, environmental campaigning organisation that exists because our fragile planet needs solutions, action, courage, and deserves a voice. It champions responsible and socially just solutions including scientific and technical innovations to ensure the earth is able to nurture life in all its diversity.
Greenpeace Japan began in 1989 and, in recent years, has focused on promoting clean energy, making our food free of toxic chemicals, and protesting our forests and oceans. Preventing climate change is a key priority, as is stopping so much disposable plastic from entering our environment. Greenpeace works with supporters, volunteers and communities throughout Japan, to build a happier and more sustainable way of life and you will work alongside like-minded people from all over the world who are doing the same.
A Greenpeace Campaigner is required to design and implement Greenpeace Japan's campaigns to achieve objectives and inspire and raise public awareness and understanding of environmental issues. You will participate in the planning of campaign project work, as a member of the Greenpeace Japan campaign team and the wider, global team, and contribute to creating exciting new proposals. You will implement the agreed strategies in a professional manner and represent Greenpeace to external companies, groups and the media, ensuring consistent messaging and positioning of the organization at all times.
You are bilingual in verbal and written Japanese and English and have knowledge or experience in national or international campaigning (including corporate campaigning). You have excellent communication skills and can act as an effective spokesperson.
Ideally you have scientific knowledge or experience in at least one of the Greenpeace campaign themes and understand the roles that science, politics, economics, business, consumers, media, and social change play in campaigning. Having a degree in international politics or in an issue topic (forestry, marine biology, ocean geography, etc.) would be highly valued, as would experience in marketing, CSR, activism or life experience. Most importantly, you have a passionate desire to see our environment protected and a more fair and caring society in Japan.
