The Organisation

The Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) was established in 2007 as the Registered Aboriginal Party that represents the Gunaikurnai people, the Traditional Owners of the Gippsland region. GLaWAC provides strategic leadership by developing and leading key initiatives to continuously improve the capacity, integrity and independence of the Gunaikurnai community.

With a membership of more than 700 Traditional Owners, GLaWAC is the prescribed body corporate for theGunaikurnai people and lands, providing joint management of 14 parks and reserves within the state and representing all Gunaikurnai native title, cultural heritage, land, water and natural resource management and related employment aspirations and issues

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer you will provide strategic financial leadership and build and influence your team to be a service provider and partner to the business.

You will lead and manage all business enabling functions to sustain the growth of GLaWAC and ensure the continued financial health and stability of the organisation including compliance with statutory and legislative requirements.

You’ll be responsible for finance and accounting, risk and governance, as well as the administrative and business services that support and enable all areas of GLaWAC’s operations. Additionally, you will oversee facilities, assets and contract management alongside tenders and procurement and provide executive and board reporting.

Skills Required

You have extensive experience managing finance, business services, procurement, facilities, administration, and payroll functions together with a track record achieving team engagement and effectively partnering with internal and external stakeholders.

You will be skilled in preparing financial reports and have a wide knowledge of and ability to keep up to date with changing legislation as it relates to payroll and finance policy and processes.
You’ll also bring to the role:
  • A consultative and collaborative management style
  • Business or commerce qualifications, with a CPA or CA membership desirable
  • Experience with accounting software and payroll systems
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with people effectively at all levels
Desirable will be your experience working with Aboriginal people, including a demonstrated ability to communicate and engage sensitively and effectively with Traditional Owner led communities and organisations, along with a genuine appreciation and respect for their culture.
