Cancer Council Victoria are internationally renowned for their work in cancer research and prevention.  With more than 30,500 Victorians diagnosed with cancer each year they play a vital role in early detection and support.
  
The Prevention Division aims to reduce the risk of cancer in the Victorian population through social marketing, advocacy, professional education and providing advice based on the best available evidence.  Achieving equitable outcomes for all Victorians is a priority for Cancer Council.
  
The Screening, Early Detection and Immunisation program (SEDI) aims to mobilise community participation in cancer screening, early detection and immunisation working in partnership with stakeholders to deliver community-based programs, implementing innovative media and engaging with the workforce sector.

The Role
  
As part of the Prevention Division, you will lead a diverse range of community engagement programs to improve cancer screening, viral hepatitis and HPV vaccination. You will focus on improving the health of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities, culturally and linguistically diverse populations, and communities affected by social and economic disadvantage.
  
Specifically, you will:
  • Manage a team to plan, develop, implement and evaluate community programs
  • Ensure program objectives are met within the overall framework of the Division
  • Proactively identify opportunities to extend program reach in the community
  • Liaise with key stakeholders and funding bodies and manage service agreements and budgets
  • Cultivate opportunities to develop partnerships and diversify funding sources.


Skills Required
  
This role would suit a tertiary qualified community development manager with a background in public health, health promotion or a related field. You will have substantial experience managing people and developing, implementing and evaluating community programs. Strong project management skills is essential, as well as the ability to develop strong stakeholder relationships, especially with government and other funding bodies.
  
Ideally you will have experience engaging with the Victorian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community, culturally diverse groups or communities affected by social and economic disadvantage.
  
You will also demonstrate:
  • Proven ability in developing and implementing project and operational plans
  • Experience working in, or with government and engaging with funders
  • A sound understanding of the health system and the ability to influence public health policy
  • A strong record of building effective stakeholder partnerships and working relationships
  • Highly developed business writing and presentation skills
