The Organisation
Blue Knot Foundation (BKF) is the National Centre of Excellence for Complex Trauma, empowering recovery and building resilience for adults impacted by complex trauma.   
With funding from the Department of Social Services, BKF has been approached to operate the Counselling and Referral Line for people affected by the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.  This is a unique opportunity to play a part in significant social change.
The service will operate seven days a week and will provide counselling, support and referral services to people impacted by the Royal Commission (RC), including survivors, guardians, family members, carers, advocates and other people affected by the RC.

The Role
This position offers trauma-informed, person-centred, disability and culturally aware counselling, support, information and referrals to callers from around Australia.  Additionally, you will provide debriefing and support to your peers. 
The work involves understanding and responding to callers’ needs with an ability to connect with people with a range of disabilities, ages and backgrounds.  You will deliver information on a range of issues and provide warm referrals and links to on-going supports. 

Additionally you will: 
  • Provide counselling and support to people making contact through diverse modes
  • Support effective workflow within the counselling team
  • Debrief and support the counselling team as needed
  • Liaise with clinical team managers around issues arising for the counselling team
  • Be aware of Royal Commission schedule and forward relevant information
  • Adhere to best practice clinical protocols in working with complex trauma and disability
  • Promote safety, trust, choice, collaboration and empowerment
  • Work cooperatively with a creative and agile team
  • Attend to self-care by attending professional development and regular supervision 
This is a direct counselling role with some supervisory components in managing the workflow and supporting the counselling team.

Skills Required
You have a background providing counselling to survivors of complex trauma and or violence, people with disabilities and/or in mental health with experience leading, supervising, managing or coaching staff. 
You are flexible and can work in a fast paced, pressured environment, with fluctuating demands and meet the unique demands arising from the RC and around callers’ needs. 

Additionally you have: 
  • Current membership or eligibility to a relevant professional body
  • Qualifications in counselling, social work or psychology
  • A person-centred approach to working with people
  • Experience working with the dynamics and impacts of trauma
  • Familiarity with providing debriefing and support in a counselling setting
  • An understanding of the range of counselling and support services available to survivors
  • Skill in risk assessment and management and crisis intervention
  • An ability to quickly develop working relationships and to engage effectively
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and human rights
  • Availability and willingness to work full or part time in a seven-day roster
