The Organisation

Established in 2006, Boorndawan Willam Aboriginal Healing Service (BWAHS) provide culturally relevant, accessible, integrated client centred services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, children and men in their healing journey to address the impacts of family violence.  Servicing the Eastern Metropolitan Region of Victoria, BWAHS use a holistic approach that is underpinned by the integration of Aboriginal teachings within a cultural, spiritual and safe environment.  By delivering specialised services including women’s and men’s programs, intensive case management, integrated family services and Indigenous victims of crime program, they are supporting individuals and families to become strong on their healing journey so that they may lead lives free from family violence.



The Role

Reporting to a supportive and engaging board, your role as Executive Manager will be to help shape the future of BWAHS through its period of transitioning from an auspice arrangement to becoming a fully Aboriginally community controlled independent organisation.  You will be integral in developing the strategic plan that will have a significant impact on the future of BWAHS and its culture. You will be the voice and nurture with and rebuild relationships with members of the community, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal organisations, funding bodies and government.  You will also utilise your knowledge of the sector to provide leadership to ensure high quality services and programs are delivered to vulnerable Aboriginal children, young people and their families.


Skills Required

It is strongly preferred that the successful candidate will be and Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander with senior management experience and a proven track record in clinical governance, ideally from within an organisation that specialises in Aboriginal services, case work and family violence.  Your previous experience will have given you a good understanding of the sector’s history and challenges and the ability to connect with community.  A track record in reporting to a board, organisational development, leading an organisation through change and respectful to its stakeholders will be the key to your success in this role.
